Schwartz, Fox & Saltzman, LLC. – Philadelphia Divorce Lawyers
Like prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements can address many issues, including whether an asset acquired during marriage is joint or separate property. Additionally, they can address issues such as alimony and property division in the event of a divorce. While some people believe these marital agreements are preparing a couple for divorce, in reality, they often give couples the peace of mind to be comfortable in the marriage without worrying about outstanding financial issues.
We often draft postnuptial agreements for clients in their second or third marriage, as well as for business owners and people with significant, or complex assets. Many of our Pennsylvania clients have children from a previous marriage and want to make sure their children will be properly provided for.
If you are considering a postnuptial agreement, for whatever reason, contact our law office to schedule an initial consultation.
Sometimes a couple will decide after they are married to sign an agreement that will address issues such as alimony (spousal support), division of assets, and sometimes child custody. When making this postnuptial agreement, the couple can hire an attorney to help negotiate the terms and draft the agreement for them.
A postnuptial agreement is a binding contract that will form the basis of the terms of the divorce decree if the marriage does dissolve. For this reason, hiring an attorney is a practical requirement.
If you decide to hire us, we will work closely with you to define and protect your interests. We will make sure you have a full understanding of the implications of your decisions so there are no unwelcome surprises later on.
